WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team closed out the 2023-24 season on Saturday night, suffering a tough 2-0 loss to Wilkes University in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game.
Wilkes controlled much of the first period, putting 11 shots on goal while Neumann had four in the scoreless session. The Knights started to assert themselves in the second period but, at the 5:20 mark, the Colonels took a 1-0 lead on a two-on-one goal. In the third, Neumann carried much of the play but couldn't find the mark. With 27 seconds left regulation, on the power play, and with the goalie pulled for the extra attacker, the Knights gave up an empty netter to close out the game.
Joe DiGiulio led the offense effort with four shots on goal while
Tony Andrews had three.
Chase Cochran led the way with two blocked shots.
Cole DeFazio backstopped the Knights and made 28 saves, keeping the Knights close throughout.
Neumann ends their season with an overall record of 7-16-1, and a UCHC record of 7-12-1. They finished equal in points with Nazareth but drop to ninth place, and out of the playoff picture, due to tiebreakers. The squad will take the lessons learned this season into the 2024-25 campaign, which will get started in October.
