ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Hockey team took down the Stevenson University Mustangs in their final game of the season by a final score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Midway through first period, in a tightly contested game, Stevenson was handed a power play and they were able to strike first with 10:35 left to take a 1-0 lead. That lead would last throughout the period as the Mustangs outshot Neumann 10-8.
Eight minutes into the second, the Knights would tie the game as
Brooke Markley scored the first goal of her collegiate career.
Georgia Wunder grabbed the lone assist as the game was even at one. 2:22 later, while on the power play,
Kaila Booth scored on the power play, after a shot by
Meg Landman, giving Neumann the lead. Five minutes later, Booth struck again for her sixth goal of the season, doubling the advantage. Stevenson scored the lone goal of the third with 3:43 left but could not complete the comeback.
Lian Sydorowicz had multiple chances to score with seven shots on goal as
Rachel Frederick followed with four.
Cecelia Mick and
Mai Kantorovich strengthened the defense with three blocked shots each.
Ella Sciborski was sharp between the pipes with 33 saves.
Neumann ends the season with a record of 5-18-2 and a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) record of 1-17-2. Although they didn't qualify for the UCHC tournament, the Knights will hope to take some momentum into the offseason, as they look forward to the 2024-25 campaign, starting in October.
