Men’s Basketball Falls in Atlantic East First Round

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Basketball team dropped a heartbreaking 70-69 decision to Immaculata University on Monday night, in the first round of the Atlantic East Conference tournament.

Neumann got off to a strong start as they took an 8-2 lead after three and a half minutes of play. After a five point run by Immaculata, the Knights scores 13 of the next 20 points, keyed by a TJ Lewis layup, making it a seven point lead. Over the next four minutes, it was a back-and-forth slog, although Neumann did extend the lead to eight. Over the last eight and a half minutes after the half, the Mighty Macs went on a 15 point stretch, giving them a 36-30 at the break.

The halftime talk must've helped as Neumann went on a 10-4 stretch to tie the game at 40. Immaculata scored seven of the next nine points to re-establish the lead by five. With 12:48 left in the second, the Knights scored the next seven points, including a Kyle Thompson traditional three-point play, giving them their first lead of the half, midway through the half. The Mighty Macs again took control with nine straight points over two minutes of play, but again Neumann went off on a 10-2 run, and they led by one with 3:42 left. The game went back and forth from there but, with 10 seconds left, and the score tied, Immaculata hit a late free throw, sealing the game.

Lewis led the game with a double-double, snaring 21 points and 10 rebounds. He added a team-high four assists. Jalen Vaughns followed with a hard-fought 13 point performance while Amari Little had 12, and Ja'bri White had 10 points to go with rebounds off the bench.

Neumann finishes the 2023-2024 campaign with an overall record of 9-17.
