IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Immaculata University 64-54 in semifinal action on Wednesday evening to advance to the Atlantic East Conference Championship game.
Lauren Klieber led the Knights with 17 points.
Terea Tourk notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Emily DuPont added 10 points.
Neumann opened the game on an 8-2 run. Immaculata answered with back-to-back threes to tie the game at eight. A jumper by
Aubrie Breisblatt put the Knights up 14-13, a lead they would not relinquish. A three-pointer by
Lindsay Holden at the end of the quarter gave Neumann a 22-18 advantage.
The Knights held the lead throughout the low scoring second quarter. Two free throws by Klieber in the final minute sent Neumann into halftime with a 33-26 lead.
Three straight baskets by the Knights to open the second half put Neumann up by double-digits, 39-26. The Knights took a 49-35 lead in the to fourth.
The teams went back and forth throughout the fourth quarter. On two free throws with 2:51 on the clock, the Mighty Macs pulled within seven, 59-52.
Jacqueline Wardrop netted a free throw 11 seconds later for an eight-point advantage.
Neither team would find the basket for 90 seconds when Breisblatt put the Knights back up by 10. Two free throws by DuPont sealed the win and the trip to the Championship game.
Neumann (18-9) heads to Marymount on Saturday for the 2024 Atlantic East Championship game. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM.
