ASTON, Pa. – On a night that the Neumann University Men's Volleyball team celebrated their lone senior,
Brandon Baskerville, the Knights swept visiting Wilson College in a non-conference match, 3-0. The set scores were 25-22, 25-21, and 25-23.
The first set was very close throughout with no team gathering more than a three point run. After giving up the first, Neumann took a 3-1 lead before Wilson battled back. With the Phoenix leading 11-10, the Knights scored five of the next six, and seven of nine to extend the lead to four at 17-13. Wilson was able to pull back within one as the set waned but Neuman took it by three.
The second set was similar to the first but Wilson had more opportunities with the lead than before. While trailing 4-3, the Phoenix scored four straight and six of seven to lead 9-5. The Knights stayed close and with the score at 12-8, Neumann scored four in a row, evening the set at 12. The Phoenix was able to take the lead back at 17-15 but another four point run gave the Knights a 19-17 lead. After Wilson tied it up at 19, Neumann took the set by scoring six of the last eight.
The Knights came out strong in the third, grabbing a 5-2 lead in the early going. Wilson came back to tie the game at six, and eventually took an 11-9 lead. For the rest of the set, which included some incredibly long rallies, neither team could pull away, trading points until 23-23. Neumann scored the last two points to take the match.
Trey Edmonds led the offense with 12 kills, along with 11 digs, two block solos, and a block assist.
Victor John followed with eight kills while
JP Perdomo had six.
Christian DeMarco had 17 digs as Baskerville and
Dan Barckholtz contributed nine digs each, with Barkcholtz adding 28 assists.
Neumann(11-5), winners of six in a row, will be back on the court on Thursday night as they host another non-conference foe, Bryn Athyn College. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
