Softball Sweeps Penn State Abington

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Softball team took two games against Penn State Abington on Tuesday afternoon, grabbing game one, 2-1 in eight innings, and game two, 9-3
 
In the top of the first, Penn State Abington got on the board with RBI single. Neumann started get traction with a two out rally in the bottom of the fifth. Pinch hitter, Olivia Ammon got it going with a single into center field. After Bri Reim re-entered to run, Emily Ammon singled to left, but it snuck through the fielder to the fence, allowing Reim to score and tie the game.
 
It took an extra inning as, in the eighth, with Tori Spinella placed at second to start the frame, Reim bunted her to third on a sacrifice. E. Ammon followed with a single up the middle to win the game for the Knights.
 
E. Ammon led the offense by going 3 for 4 with an RBI. Ashlynne Scardino had a solid start, giving up one run on eight hits and a walk over five innings. Daphne Santos got the win in relief hurling a perfect three innings and striking out five. She's now 1-0.
 
Game two started in similar fashion with the Nittany Lions striking first with two runs on an RBI double and an RBI single. In the second, Nicole Anderson got on base on a fielder's choice and moved to third on a Sydney Wright single. After Wright stole second, Tori Spinella got the Knights on the board with an RBI single to score Anderson. Bri Reim smashed a double down to right field line, allowing Wright to score, tying the game. As E. Ammon walked, Spinella scored on a wild pitch. E. Ammon stole second and a Taylor Portzline grounder scored Reim. Alyssa Celi closed the scoring in the inning on an RBI single for a 5-2 lead.
 
Neumann added on in the third, starting with a single to left by Wright and Spinella reached on an error. Reim grabbed another RBI hit as Wright scored on her single to center. E. Ammon then plated Spinella with her own single. After a Portzline walk Celi hit a sacrifice fly to score Reim.
 
The fourth inning was scoreless but the Knights picked up more action in the fifth. With one away, E. Ammon double to the right field gap and scored two batters later on a Celi double down the line. Penn State Abington got a run back in the sixth on an RBI infield hit, but they could come no further.
 
E. Ammon was 3 for 3 in the night cap with a double, a steal, an RBI and two runs scored. She finished the day 6 for 7. Wright was also 3 for 3 with a stolen base, a walk, and two runs. Reim was 3 for 5 with a double, two runs batted in, and two runs scored. Wright had a complete game in the circle for the win. She gave up three runs on nine hits and three walks while fanning five to improve her record to 2-1.
 
Neumann (6-10) will be back in action on Thursday when they visit Stockton University for a 2:30 PM start.
