GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Neumann University lost both ends of the non-conference doubleheader against Stockton University on Thursday afternoon. The final scores were 10-2 and 9-1.
Stockton got on the board in the first inning of game one, picking up four runs on two RBI groundouts and a two-run error. They made it a six run game in the second on a two-run base hit. In the third,
Tori Spinella led off for Neumann and reached on an RBI single. She moved to second on a passed ball and
Cioni Simmons was issued a walk.
Bri Reim moved the runners up a base on a sacrifice bunt and, two batters later,
Olivia Ammon hit a single through the right side, scoring both Spinella and Simmons.
The Knights held the Ospreys scoreless in the bottom of the inning but the were able to pick up two in the fourth on two consecutive RBI singles. Stockton put the game away on a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth.
In the second game, Stockton again struck first with first inning run thanks to an RBI single. After a scoreless second, the Ospreys took control of the game in the third with a three-run homer and a two-run single for a 6-0 lead.
Cecelia Mick led off the fifth with a base hit through the right side of the infield and then
Anaya Torres walked. Spinella pushed the runners up with a sacrifice bunt. Reim followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Mick. Stockton closed out the game in the bottom of the frame with a two-run single and an RBI double.
Neumann (6-12) is scheduled to play their next games on Friday afternoon down in Virginia against Marymount University. First pitch for game one of the Atlantic East Conference doubleheader will be at 2:00 PM.
