ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Softball dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon against Swarthmore College by scores of 8-0 and 4-2.
Game one went scoreless until the fourth inning when Swarthmore scored on a solo home run. They added another in the fifth on an RBI single. In the seventh inning, they sent 11 to the plate, scoring six runs on three RBI singles, a bases-loaded walk, and a two-run double.
In game two, it was Neumann who got on the board first.
Taylor Portzline led off the second inning with a walk and moved to third on an
Elizabeth Shire single and an error.
Sydney Wright followed with a grounder to second to score Portzline.
Alexis Palombi knocked an RBI single up the middle to plate Shire for a 2-0 lead.
That lead held until the late stages of the game, but Swarthmore got within one on the strength of a fifth inning sacrifice fly. In the seventh, the Garnet tied the game on an RBI double and then took the lead on a two-run home run.
Both
Kristen Pagliaro and Portzline picked up two hits on the day, Pagliaro added a double and Portzline scored a run.
Neumann (6-16) will be back in action on Tuesday, April 2
nd for a doubleheader against Immaculata University that was originally scheduled for this coming Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
