ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team picked up a pair of shutout wins on Saturday afternoon against Elizabethtown College. The Knights won by scores of 7-0 and 6-0.
Prior to the game, the Knights recognized their 2024 senior class:
Taylor Portzline,
Cecelia Mick,
Kristen Pagliaro,
Maddie Tice,
Ashlynne Scardino, and
Elizabeth Shire.
Scardino pitched a complete game shutout in game one. She allowed six hits and did not walk a batter.
The Knights struck with four runs in the first inning. With two runners on, Shire hit a two-run double to score Portzline and
Alyssa Celi. Scardino followed with a double to score Shire. Tice hit the third consecutive double and Scardino scored for a 4-0 lead.
Neumann added two more runs in the second as Portzline singled to score
Cioni Simmons. Shire hit her second double to knock in Portzline. The Knights took advantage of an error and
Emily Ammon scored an unearned run in the third for a 7-0 score.
Not to be outdone in the circle,
Olivia Ammon also pitched a complete game shutout in game two. She allowed five hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out four.
Shire hit her third double of the afternoon in the first inning to score Portzline and for a 1-0 Neumann lead. The Knights added another run in the third after Simmons tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pagliaro.
In the sixth with the bases loaded, Mick hit a two-run single.
Tori Spinella followed with another two-run double for the 6-0 score.
Neumann (10-20) will head to FDU-Florham on Wednesday for a rescheduled doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
