MADISON, N.J. – The Neumann University softball team split a doubleheader with FDU-Florham on Wednesday afternoon. The Knights won game one 14-8 while the Devils took game two 12-0.
In game one,
Elizabeth Shire tallied her 100th career hit and knocked in four runs.
Sydney Wright and
Alexis Palombi each had three RBI. Each starter had at least one hit in the game.
Shire hit a two-run double, her 100th career hit, in the top of the first for an early 2-0 Knights lead. Wright and Palombi followed with back-to-back RBI singles for a 4-0 lead after one inning. The Devils answered with four runs in the bottom of the first.
The first three batters in the top of the second reached base for Neumann. With two outs, Shire and Wright drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks. Palombi then hit a two-run single for an 8-4 score. FDU-Florham scored two in the bottom half for an 8-6 score after two.
The Knights plated two more runs in the top of the third for a 10-6 score, a score that stuck until the Devils scored two in the fifth. Neumann extended its lead with four runs in the sixth to the eventual 14-8 final. Wright hit an RBI double and
Emily Ammon drew a bases-loaded walk.
Wright picked up the win in the circle, going 5.0 innings.
Olivia Ammon pitched the final two innings.
In game two, the Devils scored three in the first, one in the second and eight in the third for the 12-0 final after five innings. The Knights were held to two hits by
Nicole Anderson and
Tori Spinella.
Daphne Santos started the game and went 1.0 inning.
Ang Sannicandro went 1.2 innings and
Ashlynne Scardino pitched 1.1 scoreless innings.
Neumann (11-21) will host Widener tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
