GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team suffered a 12-6 loss against Gwynedd Mercy University in an Atlantic East Conference game on Saturday afternoon.
Over the first three minutes, Neumann fell behind 3-0. With 8:12 left in the first quarter,
Renzo Garone got the Knights on the board. Four minutes later,
Justice Brovero deposited a
Brendan Boschi feed to pull within one. The Griffins scored with 51 seconds remaining but, Boschi potted one home with four seconds left, to trail by one after one.
Boschi was able to equalize 31 seconds into the second, but Gwynedd Mercy responded to retake the lead. Most of the rest of the half was quiet before the Griffins scored with 2:35 left. Garone was able to answer 29 seconds later to again pull the Knights withing one at the halftime break.
In the third, Neumann was shutout as Gwynedd Mercy scored three times for a 9-5 lead after 45 minutes of play. The Griffins continued to pull away as they scored 52 seconds into the fourth, and again at the 5:28 mark.
Luke Sykes tried to help Neumann claw back into the game with a man-up goal but Gwynedd Mercy put together one last goal with 72 seconds left to ice the game.
Boschi led the Knights with two goals and one assist. Garone added two goals of his own while Brovero notched a goal and an assist.
Jake Methlie won 12 of 15 face-offs and scooped up seven ground balls.
Owen Avelar made 18 saves.
Neumann(8-7, 2-3) will close out the regular season on Wednesday when they visit Marymount University. The game is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
