ASTON, Pa. – On Friday afternoon, the Neumann University Baseball team dropped a 6-2 Atlantic East Conference game against Gwynedd Mercy University to close out the home portion of their schedule.
The game started as a pitchers' duel as the first three innings went scoreless. Starting in the fourth, Gwynedd Mercy started to assert themselves as they got an RBI sacrifice bunt. In the fifth, they doubled their lead with a sacrifice fly. The next two innings would feature two runs each as scored in the sixth on an RBI single and a wild pitch, and in the seventh, a two-run double.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Knights tried to claw their way back into the game with a two-out rally.
Josh Finger started it with a double down the left field line and moved to third on a balk.
Brandon Colon plated Finger with a single up the middle.
Anther two-out rally ensued in the eighth when
AJ Nardo began it with a double.
Tyler Kilmer followed up with an RBI single to pull the Knights within four, but they went down in order in the ninth.
Nardo and Finger each went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Josh Lillis powered through seven innings, striking out six, but suffered the loss.
Gatlin Hovenstine was solid over the last two innings allowing just a hit-by-pitch while fanning three.
Neumann (15-22, 2-14 Atlantic East) will close out the season on Saturday with a doubleheader at Gwynedd Mercy starting at 12:00 PM.
