ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team netted seven in a 7-0 win over Eastern Mennonite University on Friday evening in the season opener.
Elle Smith tallied two goals and two assists in the win.
Meghan Sheldrick and
Gabriella Cappelli each scored a pair of goals, their first as Neumann Knights.
Ariel Sprague also scored her first collegiate goal.
Casey McGee drew her first collegiate point with an assist.
Natalie Zoffer also notched an assist in the game.
Caley Gee made two saves in net for the shutout win.
The Knights got on the board in the 14
th minute as Smith put her own rebound into the cage and a 1-0 lead after the first quarter. The senior followed with a penalty stroke goal in the 20
th minute. Sheldrick tallied her first collegiate goal in the 27
th minute for a 3-0 lead at the half.
Neumann scored three goals in the third quarter. Cappelli scored in the first minute of the second half. Sheldrick tallied her second goal and Sprague scored in the final minute for a 6-0 lead.
Cappelli capped the scoring in the 47
th minute for the 7-0 final. The Knights outshot the Royals 28-5 overall and 17-2 on net.
Neumann (1-0) will look to make it two straight when it hosts Houghton tomorrow afternoon beginning at 3:30 PM.
