ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Soccer team shutout non-conference opponent Notre Dame of Maryland by a final score of 6-0 on Wednesday evening.
From the opening kickoff, Neumann controlled the pace of play and possession, tilting the field in their favor. In the eighth minute,
Anna Poehlmann attempted a cross that was blocked by the defense, but it bounced over the goalkeeper, giving them a 1-0 lead. In the 32 minute,
Catherine Miller pushed home a corner kick from
Sierra Lester to double the Knights advantage. Four minutes later,
Hannah Dang drove a shot from 30 yards away, making it 3-0.
Neumann continued to attack the goal in the second half, but it took until the 74
th minute to add to their lead.
Jaclyn Burmood took a Poehlmann pass and rolled it into the corner of the goal. Poehlmann added another goal in the 83
rd minute, receiving a cross from
Kera McKnight. Just over a minute later, Burmood took a corner and dropped on the head of
Julianna Hatt, who picked up her third goal of the season, closing out the scoring.
Poehlmann led the Knights with two goals and an assist as she took 12 shots and put eight on goal. Hatt and Burmood each took six shots while
Summer Brown took five shots from the back line.
Lex Navarro earned the clean sheet without having to face a shot on goal.
Neumann(2-1) will be back in action on Saturday as the hit the road to take on Keystone College on a non-conference match. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start in La Plume, Pa.
