MADISON, N.J. – The Neumann University field hockey team came up just short at Drew University on Saturday morning, 3-2.
The Rangers came out and scored two goals in the first quarter for an early 2-0 lead.
Michelle Hughes cut the lead in half in the 21
st minute when she intercepted a pass and scored on a breakaway. Drew answered back before the end of the half for a 3-1 lead at the break.
Neither team scored in the third quarter. As time was winding down in regulation,
Gabriella Cappelli was fouled and scored from the top of the circle to get within one, 3-2, with just over a minute remaining. The Knights tried to get the ball back down into the offensive zone, but the Rangers took over and forced a penalty corner with nine seconds on the clock to run out the time.
Emma Schneider made three saves in net for the Knights in the start.
Caley Gee played the second half and did not face a shot. Neumann put up 10 shots, seven on the cage. Cappelli and
Meghan Sheldrick each had two shots on net.
Neumann (2-2) heads to Eastern on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 4:00 PM.
