HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University women's basketball team held off Centenary University 67-62 on Wednesday evening in Atlantic East Conference action.
Emily DuPont led the Knights with 20 points, six steals, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Aubrie Breisblatt tallied 18 points, four assists and four boards.
Jacqueline Wardrop and
Bri Gautier each added eight points.
Leading 13-12 with 4:11 left in the first quarter, the Knights ended the quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 25-14 lead into the first break. Each team had mini runs in the second quarter. The Cyclones pulled to within two, 36-34, with 2:47 left before halftime. Neumann scored the final four points of the quarter for a 40-34 lead at the break.
The third quarter was even, and the Knights took the six-point advantage into the final 10 minutes. Neumann built a 12-point lead, 61-49, with 4:37 on the clock. The Cyclones scored the next seven points over the next two-plus minutes to pull within five. With 1:02 left in regulation, Centenary made it a one-possession game, 65-62. In the final minute, the Knights went 2-for-4 from the line to hold off the Cyclones and come home with the 67-62 win.
Neumann (10-6, 2-1 Atlantic East) is off for a week and will host Marymount University next Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 PM.
