ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team dropped a 57-52 decision to Marymount University on Wednesday evening in an Atlantic East Conference matchup.
Emily DuPont led the Knights with 22 points.
Jacqueline Wardrop added 15 points.
After the teams traded baskets to start the game, the Saints netted the next seven points for a 9-2 lead. Neumann answered with seven straight to tie the game at nine midway through the first quarter. Knotted at 12 with 3:36 on the clock, Marymount scored the final eight points of the quarter for a 20-12 lead at the first break.
The Knights pulled to within two, 23-21, midway through the second on a layup by DuPont. A free throw by
Aubrie Breisblatt with 3:29 on the clock put Neumann within one, 25-24, but Marymount answered with the final four points of the quarter for a 29-24 score at halftime.
A three-pointer by DuPont in the final minute of the third quarter brought the Knights to within three, 41-38. Another layup by DuPont with 47 seconds left in regulation made it a two-point game, 54-52. The Saints answered right back with a layup and went 1-for-2 from the line for the 57-52 final.
Neumann (10-7, 2-2 Atlantic East) will host Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday as part of a doubleheader with the men. The Atlantic East action gets underway at 1:00 PM.
