SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Field Hockey team went up the Northeast Extension to challenge the defending Atlantic East champions on Saturday afternoon and dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision against Marywood University.
Neumann got the scoring started just under six minutes into the match when, after a penalty corner, a scramble ensued, and
Cadence Conti shoveled in her 10
th goal of the season for a 1-0 lead. With 10:15 left in the second, the Knights doubled the lead when, after another corner, Conti pushed a shot that was deflected in by
Gabriella Cappelli for her seventh goal of the season.
Five minutes into the second half, the Pacers got on the board and then tied the match 2:50 later. 40 seconds into the fourth, Marywood took the lead on a quick rush into the circle. Neumann pushed for the equalizer for the remainder of the match but just could not find it.
In addition to her goal, Cappelli had six shots, three on goal. Conti had two shots, both on goal while
Meghan Sheldrick had two shots, one on goal, to go with a defensive save.
Caley Gee was sharp in goal with 12 saves.
Neumann (8-6, 1-1 Atlantic East) will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday afternoon when they host Gwynedd Mercy University for a 4:00 PM start.
