LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Neumann University men's tennis team battled to a 4-3 win at Cairn University on Tuesday afternoon.
Trevor Lodge and Mike Brown opened doubles action with a 6-0 win in the first flight. The Highlanders took second and third doubles for the point.
Brown picked up Neumann's first point with a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles. Lodge won second singles 6-1, 6-4. At third singles,
James Leuzzi came away with a 6-4, 6-2 win at third doubles.
Coming down to needing one more point for the win,
Adam Barisa battled at fifth singles for a 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) win to clinch the match.
"(The) match started off rough in doubles, getting use to the environment," says Barista. "That partially carried into singles where I was playing too scared. By the Grace of God, I was able to turn a switch on and hit the shots I needed to win. I think this perseverance is our team's trademark. We seem to do a good job settling into a game and beating team with grit. If we couple that with starting off string, I think we can be a great team come spring."
Neumann (2-2) wraps up the fall portion of its season on Saturday when it travels to Penn State Brandywine. Action is slated to begin at 12:00 PM.
