COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Volleyball team were defeated by Ursinus College in a non-conference match on Tuesday night by a final set score of 3-0.
The Knights got off to a slow start in the first set as they fell behind by four before scoring their first point. The Bears pulled ahead at 7-1, then the teams essentially traded points all the way to 13-6. From there, Neumann went on their first multi-point run as they pulled within four. The momentum didn't last long as Ursinus scored the next six points to extend to 19-10. The Knights grabbed five of the next six points, but a three-point run closed things out for a 25-16 final.
The second set was in favor of Neumann to start with an early 3-1 advantage. After exchanging points to 5-3, Ursinus notched six of the next seven to take a 9-6 lead. With the score at 10-9 in favor of the Bears, they pulled ahead further with a 6-2 push. After the Knights scored four of the next five to make it a 17-15 deficit, Ursinus raced away for good with a 5-1 run on their way to a 25-21 set win.
In what turned out to be the final set, the Bears momentum continued as they pulled ahead 7-1. After a
Melissa Eddy kill made it a 9-5 set, Ursinus stepped on the gas and took a 15-5 lead. A 4-1 run gave Neumann a last-ditch effort, but the Bears went on an identical run to take the set 25-13, and the match.
Eddy led with eight kills and
Julia Solomon had six.
Kyla Carney helped with 22 assists while
Hannah Strohm had 14 digs to go with 10 by Eddy and nine by Carney.
Neumann (10-11, 1-1 Atlantic East) will try to get back in the win column on Saturday when they host a senior day tri-match. The Knights will welcome Gwynedd Mercy to the Mirenda Center for a 10:00 AM Atlantic East match with King's College challenging Neumann at 2:00 PM.
