Men’s Soccer Takes Down Mighty Macs

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team kept their Atlantic East Conference winning streak intact with a 4-1 win over Immaculata University on Wednesday night.

The Knights got off to a rousing start in the third minute. Conor McCarthy intercepted a pass and moved into the offensive third. He sent a cross through the box that skipped through two teammates but found Luke Mejia. He slipped in his fourth goal of the season for a 1-0 lead. The edge lasted until the 21st minute when Immaculata scored after a free kick got loose in the box.

Both teams battled back-and-forth but neither could break through until the 61st minute. A corner kick from the bench side was placed nicely into the box by L. Mejia. JP Phillip got on the end of it and headed in his first collegiate goal for the 2-1 lead. 25 seconds later, Josh Moreland stole a pass at the center line, pushed it to Jordan Illian who rolled it in for his 11th of the year. 1:26 after that, Illian took a free kick on the side of the box. It was knocked down by Jason DiFilippo and onto the foot of Moreland. He toed in his second of the season for an important insurance goal.

Moreland, in addition to his three-point game, led the Knights with three shots, two on goal. Illian also had two of his three shots go on the goal while Markus Beugre and Phillip each took two shots, both reaching the net.

Neumann (9-3-3, 5-0 Atlantic East) will return to the field and celebrate their seniors on Saturday afternoon when they take on Saint Elizabeth University in their first-ever meeting. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
