Men’s Soccer Celebrates Seniors with Clinching Win

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer defeated Saint Elizabeth University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 4-1. On the virtue of that victory, the Knights are guaranteed to be the number one seed in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference tournament.

Neumann got things rolling in the 14th minute when Darwin Berger slipped a rebound past the goalkeeper for his first goal as a Knight, and a 1-0 lead. They doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when Jordan Illian stole a ball inside the box and poked in his team-leading 12th goal of the season.

The Knights added on in the second half as they kept up the pressure throughout, out-chancing the Eagles 16-1. Illian, in the 52nd minute, lifted a cross into the box that skimmed off the head of a defender and squeezed through the hands of the goalkeeper for an own goal, and a three goal lead. 11 minutes later, JP Phillip was inside the six yard box and scored his second goal of the season. Although Saint Elizabeth broke the shutout in the 85th minute, they could get no closer.

Illian, in addition to his goal, led the Knights with four shots, one on goal. Josh Moreland also had a shot on goal in three attempts. AJ Henry, Carson Metzger, and Thom Maule split time in goal.

Neumann (10-3-3, 6-0 Atlantic East) has now won three in a row and will close out the regular season in Virginia against Marymount University on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
