ASTON, Pa. – On an afternoon where the first men's soccer conference champion from 2010 was recognized, the Neumann Knights came away with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Marywood University in their first Atlantic East game of the year.
Although only one goal was scored, there was plenty of action as Neumann outshot Marywood, 15-8, but the Pacers placed four on goal compared to the Knights three. Neumann was dominant in possession, especially in the second half as they had 11 corner kicks and only gave up three.
The Knights thought that they struck in the 73
rd minute but a late offside flag was raised to keep the deadlock alive. In the 82
nd minute,
Or Megnazi slipped a pass to
Markus Beugre inside the box. He touched it to
Victor John who poked in his first goal of the season. Just a few minutes later, it was the Pacers turn to be victimized by a disallowed goal as they had a throw in violation, and the game would stay in the hands of the Knights.
Jordan Illian led the offense with four shots while Megnazi,
Zion Atta-Krah, Beugre, and John each grabbing two shots with Beugre's shots forcing a goalkeeper response.
AJ Henry made four saves for his second straight shutout and third of the season.
Neumann (5-2-3, 1-0 Atlantic East) has now won three in a row and are unbeaten in their last seven matches. They'll return to action on Wednesday when they host Centenary for a 4:00 PM start.
