HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University women's soccer team tallied a 5-1 win at Centenary University in Atlantic East Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
Neumann began the first half with a strong offensive presence, taking multiple shots on goal. The Knights broke through in the 20
th minute when
Catherine Miller scored, assisted by
Dylan Brown, putting Neumann ahead 1-0.
Neumann continued to press, and
Ebony Arvelo doubled the lead in the 33
rd minute, with another assist from Brown. Just three minutes later,
Julianna Hatt extended the advantage to 3-0, assisted by Arvelo, and the Knights held the 3-0 lead at the half.
The second half began with Neumann extending its lead in the first minute as Miller scored her second goal of the game with an assist from
Cara Cimo. The Cyclones spoiled the shutout bid, capitalizing on a penalty shot in the 49
th minute.
Anna Poehlmann added an insurance goal in the 77
th minute, assisted by
Summer Brown, bringing the score to 5-1.
The Knights outshot the Cyclones 23-6 overall and 13-3 on net. Poehlmann led Neumann with eight shots, five on net. Arvelo added four shots, two on net.
Shannon Duffy started the game in net and made two saves.
Lex Navarro played the final 38 minutes.
Neumann (3-8-2, 1-1 Atlantic East) returns home after five road games and will host Pratt Institute in a conference game on Saturday. The Knights will recognize their seniors before the 4:00 tip-off.
