ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball team dropped a 3-0 decision on Thursday night against Marymount University in the semifinals of the Atlantic East Conference tournament.
The Knights started the first set strong, taking an early 3-1 lead but Marymount went on an 8-1 run to pull ahead at 9-4. Neumann got within three but again the Saints scored five of the next six points to make it 18-11. Neumann fought back with a 6-1 run to pull within two at 19-17 but Marymount against pushed with four consecutive points. Although the Knights scored four of the next five, they dropped the set, 25-21.
In the second, Marymount started with an 8-2 lead and maintained that advantage at 12-6. They added on with a 7-1 run for an 11-point lead. The Knights were unable to pull close as they fell, 25-15.
With their season at the brink, Neumann scored three of the first four points of the third set but again, the Saints had a response to take a 5-3 lead. They continued to forge ahead with a 10-4 push to make it 15-7. Marymount kept Neumann at arm's length and closed out the set with a 25-17 win, taking the match.
Julia Solomon led the Knights with six kills and
Melissa Eddy had five.
Kyla Carney helped with nine assists while
Liv Bowers had seven.
Hannah Strohm had 11 digs and
Soleil-La'Jour Staggs picked up two blocks.
Neumann ends the season with an overall record of 15-15 while Marymount advances to host the Atlantic East Championship on Saturday.
