HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team attempted a fourth quarter comeback but ended up falling 52-44 at Haverford College on Tuesday evening.
Emily DuPont scored her 1000
th career point in the game and finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds. She hit four three-pointers and went 6-for-6 from the line.
The Fords opened the game by taking a 6-0 lead over the first three minutes. Neither team would find the basket again until 2:26 on the clock as Haverford took an 8-0 lead. A three-pointer by DuPont put the Knights on the board. The Fords took a 15-8 lead into the first break.
Haverford continued to build its lead throughout the second quarter and held a 28-14 advantage at the break.
The Fords led by as many as 22 in the third quarter. A three-pointer just before the shot clock ran out and five second left in the third quarter gave DuPont her 1,000
th career point! The basket made the score 48-30 heading into the fourth.
The Knights started their comeback attempt in the fourth quarter and outscored the Fords 14-4 in the quarter. A three-pointer by
Hannah Cappelletti started a 9-0 run by Neumann to start the quarter and pull within six, 48-42, before Haverford sank two free throws. A layup by
Elaina Guerzon with 2:29 brought the Knights to within six again, 50-44. Neumann could not get another shot to fall. The Fords added two more points via free throws for the 53-44 final
Neumann (1-3) returns home on Saturday and will host Lebanon Valley beginning at 1:00 PM.
