SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Field Hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision against Marywood University in the Atlantic East Conference championship game on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first quarter that was played evenly, Marywood stepped up their pace in the second. With 1:53 remaining until the halftime break, the Pacers broke through with a scramble goal after a corner.
For the remainder of the game, the Knights outshot Marywood, 9-5, and had seven corners to the Pacers' two. Unfortunately for Neumann, it was not enough to get on the scoresheet. Marywood added a second goal 2:58 in the third and iced the game with a final score with 2:08 left.
Ayla Mergen led the Knights with three shots, two on goal.
Caley Gee made three saves to keep Neumann close throughout the match.
Neumann closes the season with an overall record of 11-7, their best winning percentage over the last 26 years. Their 11 wins ties the program record with teams from 2014 and 2008, as they improved their win total by seven from last year.
