MEDIA, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season with a 60-47 win at Penn State Brandywine on Saturday afternoon.
Emily DuPont opened the season with a double-double, 18 points and 12 rebounds. She went 8-for-8 in free throws.
Jess Aponik netted 15 points in her Knights debut.
DuPont put the first points on the board as she hit two free throws three minutes into the game, and the Knights never looked back. She followed with a layup and then Aponik hit a jumper for a 6-0 Neumann lead midway through the first quarter. The Knights held an 11-7 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
The Lions hit a three-pointer to open the second quarter and pull within one, 11-10. The Knights answered with a 12-0 run for a 23-10 lead.
Elaina Guerzon connected on two free throws before half and Neumann took a 29-19 lead into the break.
In the third quarter, Neumann extended its lead to as many as 19, 41-22. The Lions scored the final eight points of the quarter for a 41-30 score heading into the fourth.
After Penn State Brandywine scored the first basket, Neumann went on a 12-2 run for a 53-34 advantage. The Knights largest lead came with 3:30 left in regulation: 60-39. The Lions scored the final eight points of the game, but Neumann still came away with the 60-47 win.
Neumann (1-0) opens its home schedule on Wednesday when it welcomes Ursinus College to the Mirenda Center. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
