ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team split a tri-match on Saturday as it wrapped up the regular season. The Knights opened play in a conference match against Marymount, falling 3-0. Neumann then defeated Sweet Briar College 3-0.
Against the Saints, set scores were 25-15, 25-21 and 25-20.
Bri Gautier led the Knights with nine kills.
Julia Solomon added seven.
Kyla Carney handed out 13 assists.
Hannah Strohm tallied nine digs and
Liv Bowers added eight.
Marymount opened the match, scoring the first three points. Neumann responded with the next three points, including two service aces by
Melissa Eddy. The Knights kept the score close until with the Saints leading 14-12, Marymount scored nine of the next 11 points for a 23-14 score and the Saints took set one 25-15.
Neumann opened the second set by taking a 7-3 lead early advantage. As Marymount lead by one, 18-17, it scored the next four points before the teams traded points to the end for the 25-21 final. The Knights built a 13-11 edge in set three with two kills each from Gautier and Solomon. The Saints responded with the next five points. Neumann tied the set at 16 before Marymount started to pull away and took the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
Against Sweet Briar, Solomon had nine kills, no errors and a .692 hitting percentage.
Kyndra Dale tallied eight kills and Long added seven. Carney dished out 15 assists and Bowers added 13. Strohm finished with 14 digs.
The Knights made short work in the first set, winning 25-9 on a kill by
Delaney Jack. In set two, a kill by Gautier and a bad set by the Vixens gave Neumann the 25-17 set two win. The Knights had a few long runs in set three to take the set 25-10 and the match 3-0 to wrap up the regular season.
Neumann (14-14, 4-3 Atlantic East) will be the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic East postseason and will host Centenary on Tuesday evening in first round action. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
