ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball team fell against non-conference foe, Albright College, on Thursday evening by a final score of 73-65.
Emily DuPont led the Knights' effort with an 18-point, 12 rebound, double-double performance. She also had a game-high three blocks.
Jess Aponik got 14 points while
Lindsay Holden had 13, and
Elaina Guerzon had 11 with four steals.
Jenna Aponik finished with seven assists.
Neumann started strong with the game's first four points, but Albright came back with four straight layups to take an 8-4 lead. Towards the end of first quarter, the Knights took off on a 7-0 run for a 13-10 lead with one minute left. The Lions followed with a three-pointer then
Jenna Aponik hit a late free throw for a one-point lead after 10 minutes.
Unfortunately for the Knights, Albright hit their stride to start the second as they went on a 16-2 run over the first five minutes to take command at 29-16. Neumann scored seven of the next nine to drop their deficit to single digits, but a late layup had them down by 10 at the intermission.
For the start of the third, it was a 6-2 run for the Lions, giving them a 14 point advantage. Neumann got back within eight with 6:22 left, thanks to five points in a row but a 7-3 push put the Albright lead back to 12. Another 6-2 run, this time for Neumann got them to within eight at 52-44 to close out the period.
They continued to chase a comeback to start the fourth with five points in 1:09 but an 8-0 run allowed the Lions to pull away for good. A 9-3 run by the Knights again got them back in it with five minutes left at 65-58 but that's as close as they could get.
Neuman (1-7) will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they visit York College of Pennsylvania for a 1:00 PM start.
