READING, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team dropped a 7-3 decision against Alvernia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game on Saturday evening.
Alvernia struck first at the 5:29 mark of the opening period on a power play goal as they won the face-off forward and found a loose puck in the shot. 55 seconds later, after they thwarted a Neumann breakaway, they double their lead on a three-on-two rush.
Early in the second,
Niko Tishkevich slammed a cross from
Jared Coccimiglio while
Lucas Culhane notched as assist as Neumann got on the board with 15:11 left in the period. With 6:49 remaining, the Golden Wolves regained the two goal lead on a shot from the boards, to make it 3-1.
Alvernia added another with 17:46 left in the third period. At the 7:37 mark,
Hayden Pimm slipped in a sneaky shot for his first collegiate goal, getting the Knights back within one. Unfortunately for Neumann they gave up a shorthanded goal at the 11:15 mark, and an even strength goal 3:31 later to pull away. With 2:50 left, the Knights tried to initiate a comeback as Tishkevich spun a backhander in for his second of the game and team-leading seventh of the season. The Golden Wolves closed things out with one last marker with 1:14 left.
Tishkevich and Coccimiglio left with six shots on goal each.
Judd Katz had a strong game defensively with three blocked shots and
Jake Barkley was 15-9 in the face-off dot.
Christian Green made 29 saves in goal.
Neumann (7-3-1, 6-1-1 MAC) will return to the ice on Saturday, January 3
rd when they visit Utica University in a non-conference battle. The opening puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
