ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Hockey team were a dealt a 4-1 setback on Saturday afternoon against Middle Atlantic Conference foes, Alvernia University.
The Golden Wolves got the scoring started with 7:03 left in the first period on a goal mouth scramble. The doubled their edge with a wrister at the 18:12 mark. Early in the second, Alvernia used a power play goal to make it a 3-0 game just 46 seconds in.
At the halfway point of the middle period, Neumann earned a power play of their own.
Charlotte Labre received a pass from
Sammie Haun and rifled in her third goal of the season, pulling the Knights within one. Six minutes later, the Golden Wolves regained the three-goal lead. The final period went scoreless as the Knights were unable to muster a comeback.
Gia Santorello and
Kaila Booth led the way with three shots on goal each. Labre, in addition to her goal, had a strong afternoon in the faceoff dot, winning nine of the 13 draws she took. On the defensive side,
Marissa Rumsey blocked three shots and goaltender
Brook Adams made 29 saves.
Neumann (2-8, 2-6 MAC) will return to action on Friday, January 2
nd when they host Hilbert College for a 4:00 PM start.
