SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball team upended Marywood University in an Atlantic East Conference match-up, 49-46, on Saturday afternoon, to pick up their third win in a row.
Marywood got on the board first but a 10-0 run gave Neumann an early advantage with 5:17 left in the first. Both teams traded baskets for the duration of the period and the Knights had a 16-9 lead after 10 minutes of play. They continued to battle back and forth but with 3:47 the Pacers scored eight in a row to take a 22-21 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was very tightly contested with neither team going on an extended run. Heading into the final frame, the Pacers led by five, 40-35. That trend continued over the first four minutes and Marywood pushed the lead to 46-39 with 2:47 left in regulation. From there, the Knights dominated the rest of the game, scoring the last 10 points to come away with the win.
Emily DuPont led the way with a 14 point effort. She added four rebounds, five blocks, and four steals for a fantastic all-around game.
Jenna Aponik contributed 14 points with five rebounds, three blocks, and two steals.
Neumann (13-7, 4-2) will return to the court on Wednesday when they visit Immaculata University for a 6:00 PM start.
