Softball Falls to Stockton in Twin Bill

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team were swept in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon against Stockton University by final scores of 8-0 and 9-2.
 
In the first game, Stockton got on the board in the early going as they picked up two RBI doubles, a sacrifice fly, and an single for a 4-0 lead after one inning of play. In the third, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single made it 6-0. The Ospreys added RBI singles in the fifth and the seventh to close out the scoring.
 
Maddi Katchuk and Bri Reim nabbed hits for Neumann and Faith Weaver reached on a walk. Lauren Farrier hurled a complete game but suffered the loss. She walked just one batter and struck out three.
 
Marina Costello led the effort in game two with a 1 for 3 performance with two runs batted in. She also worked a complete game in the circle, walking two and striking out two, but was handed the loss.
 
Stockton again started strong with three runs in the first thanks to an RBI double, an RBI fielder's choice, and an RBI single. In the top of the third, they picked up an RBI double and an RBI single for a 5-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the inning, Rylie Norris reached first on an error to start of the frame. Two batters later, Cioni Simmons checked a single down the left field line, moving Norris to second. After a fly out, Costello singled to drive in both runners, pulling the Knights within three.
 
In the fifth, the Ospreys notched a run on an error to make it a 6-2 game. They broke it open in the seventh, with an RBI single, an RBI sacrifice bunt, and a sacrifice fly, securing the sweep.
 
Neumann (0-14) will be back in action on Wednesday when they host FDU-Florham in a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for a 2:30pm start.
