MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team battled to a five-set win in United East Conference action at Saint Elizabeth University on Wednesday evening.
The Eagles won the first set, going 28-26. The Knights battled back and took the second set 27-25. Neumann then took a 2-1 match lead with a 25-14 win in the third set.
Saint Elizabeth forced a fifth set with a 25-21 fourth set win. The Knights took the match with a 15-12 fifth set win.
Veryl Burns led the Knights with 15 kills and a .387 hitting percentage while adding four solo blocks.
Victor John tallied 12 kills and a .409 hitting percentage.
Trey Edmonds also finished with 12 kills and added 15 digs.
Christian DeMarco tallied 18 digs and
JP Perdomo added 13.
Noah Banaag handed out 46 assists.
Down 25-24 in the second set, three straight Knights kills, one by Perdomo and two by John, gave Neumann the 27-25 win to tie the match at one. Perdomo had the third set clinching kill in the 25-14 win.
A kill and service ace by Perdomo put Neumann up 14-11 in the fifth set. After the Eagles got a kill, Edmonds sealed the 15-12 set and 3-2 match win with a kill.
Neumann (9-9, 3-1 United East) is back on the court tomorrow and will host Immaculata for a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 PM.
