Knights Battles at Red Hawks

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Neumann University softball team battled in a doubleheader at Montclair State University on Friday afternoon. The Red Hawks took both games, winning 11-3 in six innings and 9-4.
 
Ang Sannicandro pitched 5.2 innings in the circle and struck out three in the first game. Marina Costello picked up two hits.
 
Neumann scored its first run in the fourth as Emily Ammon led off with a triple and came around to score on a single by Costello. In the fifth, Tori Spinella led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Rylie Norris. With two outs, Cioni Simmons singled in Spinella. Simmons came around to score on a single by Costello.
 
Costello added three more hits in the second game and knocked in two more runs. Alexis Palombi had two hits in the game.
 
Lauren Farrier started the game and went 2.0 innings. Sydney Wright went 4.0 innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits.
 
In the fifth inning, the Knights took advantage of a Red Hawk error and scored two unearned runs as Costello knocked in Ammon and Norris.
 
With two outs in the sixth, Palombi doubled and scored on a single by Faith Weaver. Neumann took advantage of another Montclair error in the top of the seventh and Wright scored the Knights fourth run.
 
Neumann (1-17) is back on the field tomorrow when it travels to Penn State Abington for a doubleheader. The first game is slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
