ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team attempted a late game comeback but fell to Alvernia University 14-12 on Saturday afternoon.
Connor Hurley led the Knights with six goals.
Gannon McKee added two goals and an assist.
Sean Kelly scored his first goal of the season and added two assists. He also went 7-for-10 in faceoffs.
Jake Methlie won nine faceoffs.
Owen Avelar made nine saves in net.
The Knights scored the first two goals of the game for an early 2-0 lead. The Golden Wolves answered with five straight tallies going into the second quarter. Alvernia held a 7-5 lead at halftime.
With 8:08 left in regulation, Alvernia held a 14-8 lead. Hurley found the back of the net off an assist from
Bryan Avanzato, his first collegiate point, as the junior scored three goals over a three minute span. McKee also scored and the Knights were within two, 14-12, with 2:17 left on the clock.
The comeback attempt stalled there and the Golden Wolves held on the for 14-12 win.
Neumann (2-7) heads to Delaware Valley on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 PM.
