MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Neumann University Baseball team upended Mary Washington University in a non-conference game by a final score of 9-2.
Anthony Rakotz led the Knights' effort by going 2 for 5 with a double, three runs batted in, and a run scored.
Brandon Colon was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI, and two run scored.
Joe Boccio was also 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run.
Nick Colon picked up the win on the mound, allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits, and a walk, while striking out three.
Chris Balshuweit and
Jack Valentine nailed down the win with an inning of work each. Balshuweit faced the minimum while Valetine allowed a hit and fanned one.
After a scoreless first inning, Mary Washington picked up a run in the second on an error. In the fourth, Rakotz picked up an RBI single to tie the game.
Josh Finger was issued a bases-loaded walk and Boccio scored on a wild pitch to make it a 3-1 Knights lead.
In the top of the sixth, the Eagles got back within one on a solo home run, but in the bottom of the inning, Neumann was able to pull away. Finger drove in a run on a groundout, B. Colon doubled in a run,
Donovan Brooks hit a sacrifice fly, and Rakotz plated a run on an RBI double for an 8-2 lead. Boccio was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth to close out the scoring.
Neumann (1-1) will continue this week's spring trip schedule on Wednesday when they take on Elmira College. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
