ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team were defeated in a non-conference game against Goucher College on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 17-11.
Brendan Boschi led the Knights with three goals and an assist along with five ground balls.
Connor Hurley also notched a hat trick with both
Luke Sykes and
Braden Travaglini getting two goals and an assist each. Neumann was dominant from the faceoff dot as they won 23 of 31 draws.
Jake Methlie won 16 of 20 and added 12 ground balls.
Sean Kelly went 8-3 with seven ground balls.
Owen Avelar made eight saves in the effort.
Goucher got on the scoreboard first but Sykes answered a minute later to tie the game. Over the last 9:33 of the first quarter, the Gophers scored six straight goals for a 7-1 lead. They also scored the first two goals of the second before drawing a response. With 5:37 left in the second. Hurley picked up a man-up goal and Boschi followed two minutes later, making it a 9-3 at the break.
In the third, the Gophers tallied 1:24 into the quarter but Hurley responded soon after. Goucher added two more goals and let 12-4 with 5:35 left. At 1:44, Boschi picked up two goals in 42 seconds, but Goucher added another goal with 47 seconds left for a 13-6 lead after three.
In the first five minutes of the final quarter, Goucher scored twice with Travaglini scoring in between. With 6:55 left, Neumann put together four of the next five goals. Sykes and
Gannon McKee scored 25 seconds apart, then Hurley and Travaglini tallied 40 seconds apart, but Neumann ran out of time.
Neumann (2-3) will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they'll visit Saint Vincent College. The game in Latrobe, Pa. is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
