Men’s Lacrosse Clipped by Gwynedd Mercy

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team dropped a 20-11 decision against Atlantic East Conference foe, Gwynedd Mercy University in a senior day clash on Saturday night as they honored Jake Methlie, Colin McGuire, and Carter Vanderhoofven.
 
The Knights were led by Gannon McKee's four goals and two assists. Brendan Boschi notched a hat trick and an assist while Connor Hurley placed two in the net with an assist. Methlie went 20 for 25 in the faceoff circle while grabbing 12 ground balls. Bryan Avanzato led defensively with two caused turnovers and six ground balls. Owen Avelar made eight saves in goal.
 
Although it was Gwynedd Mercy who opened the scoring, McKee and Boschi struck 36 seconds apart to give Neumann the lead with 12:12 left in the first. The Griffins came right back with four straight goals to take the lead for good. Matt Morris struck with 4:53 left in the first but Gwynedd Mercy closed the scoring and led 6-3 after 15 minutes.
 
The Griffins continued to stretch the lead with three more goals over the first 4:06 of the second. McKee got on the board but that was not enough to grab momentum as they still trailed 10-4 at the half. In the third, Gwynedd Mercy scored four in a row and six of seven, only interrupted by Boschi and the deficit ballooned to 11. The Knights made a furious push in the final quarter. McKee and Hurley scored twice with Boschi and Darius Thompson notching as well but they could not get back into the game.
 
Neumann (3-12, 0-3 Atlantic East) will take on Centenary on Wednesday afternoon as they try to get back into the win column. This Atlantic East Conference clash is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.
