ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team took a pair of games from Rosemont College, 3-2 and 11-4, on Thursday afternoon.
In game one, the Knights scored a run in the first inning as
Thomas Carroll tripled and scored on a wild pitch. The Ravens answered with a run in the top of the second and the teams stayed knotted to force extra innings.
Rosemont took a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth.
Joe Boccio opened the bottom of the eighth and went to second on a wild pitch.
JerVal Shuler came in to pinch run and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Andrew Brown.
AJ Nardo decided to end the game there and hit a two-run walk-off home run to give the Knights the 3-2 win.
Zach Mullins started the game and went 7.1 innings where he allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three.
Vic Mejia pitched the rest of the eighth inning and got the win.
The Knights scored in each inning in the second game. Neumann loaded the bases in the first inning and scored its first run on an RBI groundout by Boccio.
Tyler Kilmer drew a bases loaded walk for a 2-0 lead after one inning.
Anthony Rakotz opened the second inning with a single and scored on a single by Carroll. Nardo scored via a Raven error after walking to get to first. With the bases loaded in the third, Rakotz reached on an error, which allowed two runs to score. Carroll had another RBI single for a 7-0 score after three innings.
Rosemont broke the shutout in the fourth with a pair of runs.
Josh Finger hit an RBI groundout to score Shuler in the home half of the fourth for an 8-2 game. The Ravens plated two more in the fifth for an 8-4 score.
With the bases loaded, via hit-by-pitch, Kilmer was the fourth hit-by-pitch of the inning that allowed Nardo to score. Rakotz scored on a wild pitch in the sixth and Boccio knocked in Caroll for the 11-4 final.
Rakotz and Carroll each finished with three hits in game two. Rakotz also stole three bases.
Josh Lillis started the game and went 3.0 innings.
Jake Kennealy picked up the win.
Brian Van Etten and Mejia rounded out the pitchers.
Neumann (18-8) will host Hood on Tuesday in a non-conference contest beginning at 3:30 PM.
