IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team suffered a 15-8 loss against Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon in their first Atlantic East Conference game of the season.
Owen Avelar was a standout for the Knights with 23 saves. On the offensive end,
Brendan Boschi contributed two goals and two assists, including a man-up goal.
Matt Morris also added two goals, while
Luke Sykes scored two goals, and
Gannon McKee added a goal and an assist.
The first quarter began with Immaculata taking a commanding lead with five goals. The Knights found success late in the quarter when McKee scored a man-up goal with an assist from Boschi, closing the quarter at 5-1.
Neumann had a strong second quarter, starting with
Connor Hurley's goal at 10:25 and continuing with Boschi's man-up goal at 8:23, assisted by
Connor Paradis. The Knights capitalized on two separate extra-man opportunities, with Morris scoring at 2:11, assisted by Sykes and the half closed with the Mighty Macs holding a 7-5 lead.
The third quarter started with an initial goal by Immaculata, but Sykes answered back with a goal at 9:11. As the quarter closed, Morris capitalized on a man-up opportunity, assisted by Boschi, to secure a late goal with 29 seconds left, bringing the score to 10-7 in favor of Immaculata. Sykes got the scoring started in the fourth when he found the back of the net at 11:57. Unfortunately for the Knights, the offense stalled there as the Mighty Macs pulled away for the win.
Neumann (3-10, 0-1 Atlantic East) will return to action on Wednesday when they host Marymount University for a 4:00 PM start.
