ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team dropped a 20-13 decision against Marymount University in an Atlantic East Conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
Connor Hurley led the Knights with five goals and one assist.
Matt Morris was another key contributor, scoring two goals and providing an assist. On the defensive end,
Jake Methlie had a solid day in the face-off circle, winning 14 out of 22 face-offs. In goal,
Owen Avelar made 16 saves.
The first quarter saw Marymount take an early lead, extending their advantage to 4-0 by the 2:47 mark. Neumann responded with a late goal from Hurley with 16 seconds remaining. In the second, the Saints pushed their lead to 7-1 by the 11:53 mark. Neumann responded with a man-up goal by Hurley, assisted by
Gannon McKee at 11:03, followed by another goal from
Luke Sykes shortly after, closing the gap to 7-3, but Marymount scored the final two goals of the period for a six goal lead at the break.
Brendan Boschi initiated Neumann's scoring at the 9:16 mark of the third, followed by
Connor Paradis and Morris, who capitalized on a man-up situation at 5:24, assisted by Hurley. Neumann's offense continued to press, with Hurley and Morris each adding goals, keeping the Knights in the game.
The Saints pulled away again in the early stages of the final quarter with three straight goals. Neumann responded with a scoring streak, starting with Hurley's goal at 9:54 and continuing with
Braden Travaglini's man-up goal, assisted by Paradis, at 7:51.
Sean Kelly and Hurley each added goals to bring Neumann's within seven, but they could not come back.
Neumann (3-11, 0-2 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Saturday night when they host Gwynedd Mercy University starting at 7:00 PM.
