ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse team is amid preparations for their Saturday afternoon clash at Marymount University for the Atlantic East Conference championship.
Neumann has an overall record of 10-8 and was 4-1 in conference play, earning them the No. 2 seed. Marymount is the top seed after finishing their season with a spotless 5-0 conference record. They are 16-2 overall.
In the semifinals, the Knights pushed through the unique circumstance of having to play their game against Marywood between two separate venues, thanks to a power outage, ultimately earning an 18-14 win against the Pacers.
Cassidy Starner led Neumann with four goals and four assists.
Neve Murphy had four goals and two assists while
Alena Catka had four goals and one assist.
Abbey Fenton made 10 saves while
Maggie Miller and
Kenna Sanders caused three turnovers each. Marymount controlled the other semifinal, 23-2 over Gwynedd Mercy.
In their lone regular season meeting, the Saints defeated Neumann 15-14 in overtime. Catka paced the Knights with five goals as
Cionni Warrington added four and
Krista Geibler picking up two goals and an assist. Overall, the Knights outshot Marymount, 45-30.
The championship game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start and will be hosted at Marymount's home field at Long Bridge Park in Arlington, Va. The winner will not only be crowned Atlantic East Conference Champions but will also earn the autobid to the NCAA National Championship Tournament.
