ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — The Neumann University women's soccer team fell to St. Mary's College of Maryland by a final score of 3-1 in the 2025 season opener on Friday afternoon.
St. Mary's struck with two quick goals in the 11
th and 12
th minutes of the game.
Marisa Nicolucci cut the Seahawks lead in half with a goal in the 39
th minute and the score remained 2-1 heading into halftime.
Julianna Hatt and
Anna Poehlmann generated scoring opportunities for the Knights in the second half, delivering shots on goal in the 75th and 78th minutes, respectively. St. Mary's secured the half's only goal in the 79th minute.
Shannon Duffy made five saves in net in her Knights debut. Hatt led the team in offensive efforts with three shots, two of which were on goal. Nicolucci made a significant impact by scoring the team's only goal from her one shot on target. Poehlmann contributed to the team's attacking presence, registering a shot and ensuring it was on target.
Neumann (0-1) will face Salisbury tomorrow afternoon in St. Mary's beginning at 1:00 PM.
