ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team notched a hard-working 2-2 draw in a non-conference match against Muhlenberg College on Saturday evening.
The game started very even with both teams earning quality chances on goal. In the 15
th minute, Muhlenberg struck for the first goal of the game on a 1-0 lead. That advantage carried well into the second half in spite of 50-50 play throughout. Although the Knights were outshot by a 4-2 pace,
AJ Henry made some key saves to keep the deadlock.
The Knights were able to finally break through in the 57
th minute as they took some control of the match. Neumann was pinned in their own end but were able to break out with offense as
Markus Beugre took his own rebound and fired home his first collegiate goal to tie the game. Four minutes later, the Mules retook the lead but the Knights were still able to push forward. Finally, in the 75th minute,
Luke Mejia curled a pass into the box and
Jordan Illian ran onto it and headed it in for his third of the year to equalize the match.
Illian led the way with five shots, three on goal. Beugre had two shots on goal as well. Henry finished with a total of six saves to earn the draw with the regionally ranked Mules.
Neumann (2-2-1) will be back in action on Wednesday night when they head to New Jersey to visit Stockton University for a 7:30PM start.
