LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team broke a streak of three consecutive tie games by defeating Cairn University on Wednesday night by a final score of 5-1.
Zion Atta-Krah led Neumann with two goals on four shots, three on goal.
Owen Rem had a three-point game with a goal and an assist on two total shots.
Jordan Illian led the squad in shot attempts with seven, placing two on goal.
AJ Henry made the start and did not face a shot over 71 minutes of play.
Thom Maule mopped up and made one save.
The Knights got on the scoreboard when Atta-Krah found a loose ball inside of the box. He fired a shot through a defender's legs and past the goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead. Neumann continued to press the attack and in the 41
st minute, it yielded a second goal.
Conor McCarthy lifted a right-side corner to the opposite post and
Chase Dougherty headed it down and in for his first collegiate goal.
In the second half, the Knights still maintained a possession advantage and eight minutes in, they would strike again. Atta-Krah received a through-ball and fought past a tackle to score his third goal of the season. In the 65th minute, Illian raced down the right sideline on a counter. After he rushed in, his shot was saved off the crossbar, but the rebound was deposited in by Rem for the first goal of his career. In the final minute
Aiden Conover snuck behind the defense and scored his second goal of the season before the Highlanders broke the shutout two seconds from the final whistle.
Neumann (3-2-3) will be back in action on Saturday afternoon for a homecoming non-conference match-up against Eastern University. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
