ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to five games as they defeated Eastern University in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 1-0.
In a back-and-forth game in which both teams had stretches of possession and quality scoring chances, it was a late marker on a deflection that was the difference. In the 77
th minute,
Carter Gorczyca took the ball at midfield and pushed a pass forward to
Conor McCarthy. He followed with a through pass to
Markus Beugre who made his way inside the box and fired a shot off of a defender and into the back of the net for his third of the season.
The Knights out shot the Eagles by a 21-5 margin, but it was even in shots on goal. Neumann earned eight corner kicks with Eastern only getting two. Individually,
Zion Atta-Krah led the way with seven shots, two on goal.
Jordan Illian took four shots, including a free kick from 25 yards out that clanged off the cross bar.
AJ Henry earned the clean sheet, his second of the season, with five saves.
Neumann (4-2-3) will get back to work on Saturday, October 3
rd when they start their Atlantic East Conference schedule with a match against Marywood University. Kick-off from the Turf Field is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
