ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Soccer team took a 2-0 decision against Wilson College on Monday afternoon in a non-conference match-up.
Although the first half of the game went scoreless, both teams had quality chances to score. Neumann led in shots by a 14-4 margin, forcing the Phoenix goalkeeper make to five saves and stop numerous crosses. Wilson may have been stuck in their defensive third for most of the half but their counter resulted in three breakaway chances that were stuffed by
Shannon Duffy.
In the second, the Knights continued to control the match and eventually found a breakthrough. In the 77
th minute, they were awarded one of their sixth corner kick. Kylie Joniec tapped it short to
Liz Purcell who placed a cross right to
Anna Poehlmann who headed in her first goal of the season. 2:02 later,
Sierra Lester lifted a free kick into the box for
Ebony Arvelo. She deflected it to
Dylan Brown who bounced it into the net for her first goal of the season.
Poehlmann led the effort with seven total shots, five of them on goal. Arvelo and
Julianna Hatt had five shots and D. Brown had four. Duffy earned her first collegiate shutout with four saves.
Neumann (1-3-1) will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Albright College in another non-conference game. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
