ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University women's basketball team battled at Marymount University on Wednesday evening, falling 60-51 in Atlantic East Conference action.
Emily DuPont led four Knights in double-figures with 15 points, including going 8-for-9 from the free throw line.
Jenna Aponik tallied 11 points.
Elaina Guerzon and
Bri Gautier each added 10 points.
The Knights connected on two three-pointers to open their scoring and held a 6-5 edge with 6:23 on the clock in the first. The Saints then went on a 9-0 to take a 14-6 lead. DuPont wrapped up the first with a jumper and Marymount held a 16-10 advantage after 10 minutes.
Neumann pulled to within four, 20-16, on two free throws by DuPont, midway through the second. The Saints doubled the Knights in scoring before halftime, 10-5, for a 30-21 score at the break.
The Knights scored the final five points of the third quarter to pull within four, 43-39, heading into the fourth quarter. Two free throws by DuPont with 3:07 left in regulation put Neumann in the lead, 51-50. Marymount answered right back with a jumper to take back the lead. After two more Saints layups for a 56-51 score, Marymount went 4-for-6 from the line in the final minute to secure the win.
Neumann (3-11, 1-2 Atlantic East) heads to Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday for conference action beginning at 1:00 PM.
